This winter, Naperville residents can take advantage of a newly opened outdoor ice skating rink at CityGate Centre for outdoor recreation and fun.
The CityGate Centre has added a 60 x90 foot outdoor rink, known as the ‘Winter Skate’ rink, that opens from 11am until 9pm daily, weather permitting. The skating rink is free and open to the public, but skaters must bring their own skates as skate rental is not offered. The rink will remain open through the month of February, presenting a great opportunity for families to get some fresh air and exercise during these winter months.
The CityGate Centre is located at I-88 and Route 59 in Naperville.
For updated information regarding skating conditions, please visit the Arista Hotel website or call them at (630)579-4100.
For the enjoyment of the skating guests, several dining establishments within the CityGate Centre will be offering special warm beverages on their menus for the perfect after skating treat.
In addition to the new CityGate Winter Skate outdoor rink, the Naperville Park District also provides four skating locations throughout Naperville. Three locations are lighted during the evening hours and open until 10pm daily, weather permitting. These include Centennial Park at 500 West Jackson Avenue, Commissioner’s Park at 3407 111th Street, and the Nike Sports Complex at 288 Diehl Road. The fourth location at Gartner Park, 524 Gartner Road, does not have nighttime lighting and is closed for skating at dusk.
Each skating rink requires use of your own skates, and the rules and regulations are posted at each site. I have always found these outdoor rinks were great places to go with my daughter so she could practice her figure skating moves and get some exercise on an otherwise uneventful winter day. These facilities offer great recreation in which the entire family can participate in, all free of charge.
(PS – you can skate indoors all year long at All Seasons Ice Arena, too)
