I have to say I’m excited for this for two reasons. First, I’m a fan. From the original Guns ‘N Roses to the current lineup today, I like what he puts out. Second, I think it’s kinda ironic that he’ll be playing about a mile from the very first place I had ever heard of him.
Back when GnR first came out, I was in jr. high and was at Centennial Beach with a friend. We were listening to another popular group at the time – Def Leppard – on his boom box. Some “big” kids (um, that would mean they were 8th graders) came by with an even bigger boom box and told us that “only losers listen to Def Leppard” and that we should “listen to a real band, Guns N’ Roses” (although they used some more colorful and descriptive words than just “losers”).
So, naturally, I had to check out who this Guns ‘N Roses was. Turns out that their album, Appetite For Destruction, was awesome and is now a staple in any rock fan’s music library.
Fast forward to today and Slash is teamed up with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Their current album is Apocalyptic Love, a 13-song rock fest of powerful vocals and screaming guitars (Anastasia is my personal favorite).
It’s going to be a great show and I’m happy that there’s going to be a current rock artist playing the main stage. Good job, Ribfest organizers!
