Naperville’s Outdoor Ice Skating Rink At CityGate Centre

This winter, Naperville residents can take advantage of a newly opened outdoor ice skating rink at CityGate Centre for outdoor recreation and fun.

The CityGate Centre has added a 60 x90 foot outdoor rink, known as the ‘Winter Skate’ rink, that opens from 11am until 9pm daily, weather permitting. The skating rink is free and open to the public, but skaters must bring their own skates as skate rental is not offered. The rink will remain open through the month of February, presenting a great opportunity for families to get some fresh air and exercise during these winter months.

2013 Edward Hospital Naperville Marathon and Half Marathon

The inaugural Naperville Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Runners will be able to participate in the half-marathon or the full 26.2 mile marathon which will be a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. Over 3500 runners have currently registered for this event.

  • 7am start time for both full and half marathons

Max Lacewell Foundation Best 5K Evuh Registration And Information

The Max Lacewell Foundation Best Evuh 5k Race Fundraiser.

The Max Lacewell Foundation was established in honor of Max Lacewell, known to many as “Little Dude” He was diagnosed at five years old with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a brain stem tumor on October 29, 2008 and died on July 4, 2009. Approximately 200 cases of this rare cancer are diagnosed in the United States every year. The funds raised through the Max Lacewell Foundation stay right here in Chicago and benefit pediatric cancer research at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

This running event is for the whole family. Runners/walkers can participate in a one mile fun run for $20 or a chip timed 5K race for $30. [Read more…]

Why The DuPage River Trail Is Great

Growing up in the city, you grow accustomed to a lot of walking and no car.

Walk to the bus, to the train, taking your kids to school…everything is planned out and within, eh hum…”walking distance.”  Moving out to the ‘burbs several years ago, I found myself needing a car – and fast!  The transit system – aka Pace bus – was not going to get me far, unless I was heading down to the mall, which could be fun!  But that doesn’t get the groceries you need to put on the table.

I’ve had many cars since that time.  And, over the years, I’ve found myself relying too heavily on getting around by vehicle.  It’s an excellent tool, of course, to carpool, shop and even explore outside of the area! But, living from building to car to building, left much to be desired.

We recently picked up a couple of bikes for the family.  I have to say it’s been one of the best decisions we’ve made.

What Is The Last Fling?

Naperville’s Last Fling is a multi-day event including live concerts, food/drink, carnival rides, games, and other family entertainment and attractions.  It is put on by the Naperville Jaycees (a non-profit organization) and profits from the event are distributed to non-profit organizations in Naperville and the surrounding area.
