What Is The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club?

One of the goals of the Your Naperville community and website is to help people who are moving to Naperville discover the best of the Naperville lifestyle.  We try to show prospective newcomers all the great things about our city and why they should move here.

Another group in Naperville has a similar goal to reach out to new and current residents and give them a place to get to know each other in person.  We talked with Sue, the publicity chair of the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club, and asked her some questions to find out more about their organization and what they do.

What is the purpose of the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club?

The NNNC is a social club for new and established residents.  We offer women and couples a variety of activity groups so that they can make friends and have fun in the process.  Day, evening and weekend activities are available.

What do you personally enjoy most about being a member?

I love meeting new people!  As a “newcomers” club, I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the U.S. and the world.  Individuals bring their own life experiences and knowledge, which makes for interesting conversations at our activity groups and luncheons.

What do you hope members will enjoy and/or get out of being a part of this group?

Members who participate will keep as busy as they choose and will form lasting friendships.

Can anyone be a member?

Anyone can join the Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club.  We have members from Naperville and surrounding villages, in all age groups.

Do you ever hear from people that are moving from out of town to Naperville and want to join before they even arrive here?

Yes, we do.  Naperville is a popular destination for new residents because of the corporations that do business here and what the city has to offer.  Potential residents want information about services, schools, and the different areas to live in Naperville.  Experienced movers know that Newcomers Clubs will welcome them into the community and ease their transition.  We assure them that Naperville is very friendly, has a fantastic downtown and is a wonderful place to raise children.

What types of events do you put on for members?

We have luncheons throughout our season, September-May that include speakers, music, a fundraising silent auction in November featuring homemade items, baked goods, and baskets with a variety of store bought and donated items

About how many people are in the club?

At last count, 374

What does it cost to be a member?

$30.00 a year

How does someone apply to be a member?

They can come to a monthly welcome coffee or join through our web site at www.napervillenewcomersandneighborsclub.com.

What type of charitable work does the group do?

We give in a few different ways.  We have designated charities that we donate to at the end of our season.  This year we gave a total of $12,000.  We also take donations at our luncheons for the charity of the month and give to the charity at that time.  And we have a group called Helping Hands.  Volunteers go to the charity and volunteer their time for an afternoon once a month.  That can be anything from sorting food at Loaves and Fishes, cleaning cages at the Naperville Area Humane Society, to sorting used clothing for homeless children or planting flowers.
