Naperville is very fortunate in that it has an outstanding library system that is truly an asset to our community. In fact, it’s been ranked as the best public library in the country beating out a list of over 8,000 others.
Library hours are the same at all branches.
- Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 9:00pm
- Saturday from 9:00am until 5:00pm
- Sunday from 1:00pm until 5:00pm.
The Naperville Public Library is comprised of three separate branches that act as one unified library system, while still providing three convenient locations for residents throughout the city. The branches include the Nichols Library, located in the heart of downtown Naperville, the 95th Street Library, and the Naper Boulevard Library.
The main library is the Nichols Library, and as Naperville continued to grow significantly, the other two branches were added over the years.
More Than Books
This wonderful library system offers residents so much more than just books. Each season, the Naperville Public Library publishes a Program Guide, one for Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall. These guides list all of the interesting programs offered at each of the three branch locations. Details for each program can be found within the printed Program Guide, or the guide may be viewed online at the library website, where the guide can also be printed from a home computer.
Most programs are offered free of charge, without the need for registration. Other programs may require advanced registration as well as a small fee.
There are many programs offered for small children, teens, and adults. Examples of such programs include Preschool Storytime, Family Storytime, Preschool Fair, Language Star programs , computer classes, Teen Movie Series, College Application and Essay Writing Seminar, Pizza and Books: Teen Book Club, Wii Gaming, knitting and crochet, free movies, Conservation at Home, and many more. Programs vary by location and season to season, but there is always something for every age group and interest going on at the library. Here is a calendar of their current events.
Library cards can be obtained from each of the three branch locations and are free to Naperville residents, with a small fee charged for non-residents.
The online website offers a complete catalog of all of the materials the library has to offer, as well as a Kids’ Catalog feature. You may use this website to place holds on materials from any of the three branch locations, and select which library you choose to pick it up from. If the item is available at any one of the three locations, most requests are filled very quickly and you will be notified when the item(s) is ready for pick-up. The library also offers a convenient home delivery service for homebound residents who are unable to leave their homes to get to the library.
Aside from books, the Naperville Public Library also offer many other services. You can check out DVDs free of charge, download music, have access to the computer lab, or even get help with your math homework! There is also a very large collection of online resources that can be accessed with a few keyboard strokes, any time, day or night. The NPL also has a convenient mobile app you can download or obtain by scanning this QR code. With the mobile app, you will access to your library account where you can renew or place holds, check out events happening at the library, download eBooks, and much more.
